Thorite's 'Saveair' saves air and money

Saturday 1st May 2004

The Saveair In-Line Preset Regulator from Thomas Wright/Thorite Group is now available to make significant cost savings for any industry using compressed air tools and systems.

This small, simple, yet highly efficient regulator reduces the pressure of air fed to power tools to the level they were designed to operate with.

For example, a typical pneumatic screwdriver or drill in constant use may have an optimum working pressure requirement of 6 bar, whereas the normal factory installation of compressed air available to it could be 8 bar, translating to air consumption of up to 975 l/min.

The screwdriver will work perfectly well, but the excess pressure will lead to constant wastage of air, and thus money.

By reducing the pressure, to that actually required by the screwdriver, the air consumption would fall to 780 L/Min – an immediate saving of 195 l/min.

In one year (8 hours working over 200 days) this would equate a saving of 18,720.00 l/min, or 3,744.00 KWh!

Converting this to cost savings is equally dramatic:

The normal tariff for 1 KWh of compressed air is 0.045p

One screwdriver could save 0.84p per day

One screwdriver could save £168.00 per year.

100 screwdrivers could save £16,800.00 per year!

A further typical waste of pressure is in the use of blowguns. Reducing the pressure to a sufficient minimum of 2 Bar provides a considerable gain in safety and a reduction of up to 75% of energy costs.

The Saveair In-Line Preset Regulator is available from Thorite's National Distribution Centre on same day despatch, by calling Freephone 0800 034 5850, or from any of the Group's 8 regional Sales and Service Centres.
