New compressor makes savings at Hargreaves

Wednesday 30th April 2008

The UK's leading supplier of compressed air products and process systems, Thorite, has enabled Halifax-based Hargreaves Foundry to increase its production efficiency and save costs.

Hargreaves' old compressor suffered a terminal failure, leading to a number of pneumatics suppliers being contacted for recommendations on the most suitable replacement.

Hargreaves Foundry utilises compressed air in a variety of ways - for spray painting, shot blasting and powering air tools. However, the amount of compressed air required can fluctuate wildly each week, depending on the types of products which are being cast.

For this reason Thorite quoted for an HPC variable speed compressor of 289.5 CFM capacity, as these highly energy-efficient machines can increase or decrease their output, dependant on the compressed air capacity being called for at any given time.

The new compressor has been very successful in both increasing efficiency at the foundry and cutting on electricity bills, with the company being confident of making around a £5,000 saving each year.

This has led to Thorite being selected to install a new extended pneumatic pipework system, breathing air equipment for spray painters, plus an on-going service contract including carrying out regular breathing air testing.

Speaking of the installation Peter Lodge, Hargreaves' Foundry Manager said: "The new compressor has more than lived up to its reputation, providing precisely the correct amount of compressed air to suit every production requirement. A major additional benefit means that our expected need to increase the size and cost of the foundry's 250 Amps electrical supply, to cope with increased business, can now be deferred as the power drain from the new installation is lower than before."
