Thorite targets efficiency at Robin Hood Academy

Thursday 1st May 2008

The UK's leading supplier of compressed air products and process systems, Thorite, has supplied an HPC 37kW variable speed drive compressor package to the new £12m Directions Finningley Aviation Academy at Doncaster's Robin Hood airport.

The new compressor was chosen because of its ability to seamlessly increase or diminish its compressed air output, to accommodate fluctuations in demand, which results in outstanding energy efficiency.

The Aviation Academy was opened in January and occupies a 55,000 sq ft hangar, plus a purpose built two storey lecture rooms facility. A variety of air tools and pneumatic machinery are powered by the compressor, enabling trainee aviation engineers to gain experience working on "live" aircraft.

Over 150 aviation-related courses are available, making it the first in the UK to offer such a wide range of training and employer support in a working airport environment.

Specialising in aircraft engineering and airport operations, the Aviation Academy is a joint venture between Direction Finningley CIC, Marshall Aerospace, Doncaster College and North Nottinghamshire College and was funded by Yorkshire Forward and the European Union.
