Valves saving amazing amounts of air - and money!

Friday 21st November 2008

The UK's leading supplier of compressed air products and process systems, Thorite, has launched a new range of ASR/ASQ Saving Valves from SMC, which are easily fitted to old or new equipment and can pay for themselves in as little as one month's operation!

The valves are designed for fitment to large bore, large stroke cylinders with ports over G1/4" long, which means they have wide applications in the automotive, paper & pulp and packaging industries.

The secret of the new valves' remarkable efficiency lies in their operation of the cylinder's return stroke at reduced pressure. This simple design innovation results in air consumption savings of UP TO 40%.

As a cost saving example, for just one cylinder operating with the new valve, the figures are even more impressive:
Cylinder bore 80mm, stroke 500mm
12 cycles/min
6 bar line pressure
Reduced to 2 bar on return stroke
Working 16 hours per day, 20 days per month
Estimated compressed air cost: £0.02/m3
ESTIMATED ENERGY COST SAVING: £501.36 per year

Precise savings for individual customers' own applications can be calculated using Thorite's interactive spreadsheet, which can be accessed via the Thorite website at www.thorite.co.uk.

The valves are easily fitted to old or new equipment, have a maximum operating pressure of 10bar, a set pressure range of 1 to 3 bar and operating temperatures from -5 to 60°C. The tube material applications include soft nylon, nylon and polyurethane.

The new SMC ASR/ASQ Air Saver Valves are available from the Thorite webstore, from any of the company's nine regional Sales and Service Centres throughout Yorkshire, Lancashire and the North East, or from the National Distribution Centre which can be called freephone on 0800 034 5850.
