Boeings benefit from Thorite technology

Wednesday 1st April 2009

The UK's biggest supplier of compressed air products and process systems, Thorite, has supplied a Compair Dryer and oil water separator to a successful low cost airline.

The installation was carried out at Leeds/Bradford airport and is located in a large hangar in which all base maintenance is carried out on a modern fleet of Boeing 737/300's.

Thorite's engineers have coupled the new Compair equipment to an existing Hydrovane compressor to upgrade the quality of the compressed air used to power a range of air tools.

Ross Gowler, Thorite's Marketing & Engineering Services Director, has been closely involved with the installation and said: "Every aspect of aircraft maintenance has to be implemented to the highest standards possible. The new Thorite-supplied equipment will prolong the life and performance of the pneumatic tools used by the engineers to keep the Boeings flying, by removing damaging moisture from the compressed air. Without this safeguard the moisture can quickly ruin the air tools' seals, leading to impaired operating levels or complete tool failure."

Thorite is no stranger to meeting the demands of aircraft operating standards. The company recently also supplied an HPC 37kW variable speed drive compressor package to the new £12m Directions Finningley Aviation Academy at Doncaster's Robin Hood airport, again to power air tools, enabling trainee aviation engineers to gain experience working on 'live' aircraft.
