Thorite backs the BBEF to promote greener business

Monday 29th November 2010

Bradford-based Thorite, the UK's biggest distributor of compressed air products and process systems, has signed a twelve month agreement to assist the BBEF (Better Business Environment Forum), with the aim of working in unison to promote environmental awareness and good practice to businesses across West Yorkshire.

The BBEF's main function is to assist local companies find ways to reduce waste, conserve raw materials, reduce energy use & greenhouse gas emissions, comply with legislation and promote the concepts of sustainable development.

Helping businesses work efficiently - and make cost savings in the process - is at the heart of BBEF's mission, an aspiration which Thorite has been achieving on behalf of its customers for many years - as Thorite Managing Director Stephen Wright explained: "For many manufacturers compressed air represents the second or third highest utility cost in their plant, with around 10% of all energy consumed by industry being used to generate compressed air.

"Yet many local companies are still struggling with outdated, inefficient and energy wasting compressor systems and skimping on maintenance programmes which can allow leakage to represent as much as 40% of the total air system demand.

"Thorite can supply and install the latest energy efficient compressors and pipework, carry out ultrasonic surveys to find leaks and ensure companies comply with all current regulations.  It's good business for us, but our customers benefit even more in the long term, with savings of up to £7,000.00 per year in energy costs being commonplace.

"I look forward to our association with the BBEF enabling more local companies to realise how simple it can be to save energy and money by working with suppliers who have a proven track record in achieving these twin goals which are so vital to ensure future success."
