Nitrogen tyre inflation puts Manor Tyres on pole position

Tuesday 31st May 2011

Manor Tyres Ltd of Stainforth near Doncaster can now provide customers with Grand Prix racing team-style tyre inflation technology, thanks to extensive advanced equipment supplied by Thorite.

Manor Tyres' owner, Russ Wright, had been impressed with the concept of nitrogen inflation after seeing a system at an exhibition.  He knew the types of products required to create his own improved version and contacted a number of companies to provide a costing for an extensive 'shopping list' of specialist equipment.

Thorite came back with the most competitive price for an advanced solution that produced nitrogen through a generation unit, utilising the existing compressed air installation, six Accura Qube digital tyre inflators and tyre valve connectors, a separate receiver for storage of the nitrogen, full pipework and a free-standing dispenser with its own built-in digital inflator.

Thorite installed the complete system, including a PCL N2 nitrogen generator and inflator, making Manor Tyres one of the first independent tyre specialists in the UK able to provide a complete nitrogen tyre inflation service.

Originally developed for the tyres on F1 racing cars, nitrogen's properties compared to compressed air provide more accurate vehicle handling, improved fuel efficiency, extended tyre life and increased safety.

The contract was handled by Steve Bradbury, Thorite's Capital Equipment Sales Engineer, who said: "Nitrogen tyre inflation is very much the future for the tyre industry.  Because nitrogen molecules are bigger than oxygen molecules the whole inflation process is enhanced, with important benefits for Manor Tyres' customers."
