Thorite MD appointed President of Bradford Chamber

Thursday 28th July 2011

Bradford Chamber has appointed Stephen Wright, Managing Director of Bradford-based Thorite, to the position of President for the next two years.

Stephen joined the Chamber Board in 2009 and became Vice President to Dr. Harold Robinson last year, during which time he represented Bradford's business community at the highest level, including attending meetings with the Prime Minister and Chancellor.  He is Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Bradford and Airedale Manufacturing Alliance and a member of the Property Committee which oversees the two Chamber-created workspace facilities, Bradford Chamber Business Park and Commerce Court.

Thorite originated in Bradford in 1850 and has grown to become the UK's biggest distributor of pneumatic products and process systems.  Stephen is the great, great grandson of the company's founder and has a passion for ensuring Bradford businesses exploit every opportunity to succeed, both by engaging with the local community and by effective lobbying, especially with the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) as well as local and national government.

Speaking of his appointment, Stephen Wright said: "First of all I have to record how extremely proud I am to have been asked to take over the Chamber Presidency.  My time spent on the Chamber Board has proved to be an excellent training period and has greatly expanded my horizons regarding the challenges faced by the Bradford business community.  I'm looking forward to building closer links between local manufacturers to create better supply chain channels within the area, with the target of increasing efficiency and saving outlay.  Bradford is a great place to do business, but it needs to project the self confidence that I know it possesses - and ensure that it gets a fair crack of the whip in its dealings with the council, the LEP and any other bodies which can affect the area's commercial environment.  I look forward to doing all I can to represent the best interests of businesses large and small throughout the region during my term of office."
