Air filtration and sterilisation for the food industry

Monday 17th October 2011

The UK's biggest compressed air products and pneumatic process systems specialist, Thorite, has refined its selection of sterilisation filter systems it supplies to the food and beverage process and packaging industries.

Compressed air commonly carries a variety of contaminants, including particles, oil aerosols and oil vapour.  Allow these contaminants to remain present during food packaging and the result will be a steep reduction in product shelf life.

As the recognised authority on guidance and system supply expertise to the food industry Thorite is constantly re-evaluating every aspect of its service.  An important part of this process has focused on assessing improved sterilisation systems from leading world-class manufacturers.

The latest technology can now ensure total sterilisation at the point of use, usually by the combination of a desiccant dryer with the most suitable filtration system, achieving the complete removal of any oil traces, plus the capture of a range of microbiological hazards.  The filters are easily cleaned by autoclaving or back-flush steam treatment.

These improved standards of compressed air filtration now enable Thorite to provide the food industry with systems compliant with all current food regulation legislation and codes of practice, whilst maximising food product performance in terms of freshness and visual appeal.

Details of food industry process filtration are available from any of Thorite's nine regional centres.
