Bradford Chamber's President welcomes the Lord Mayor of London

Bradford Chamber's President welcomes the Lord Mayor of London

Thursday 26th January 2012

Stephen Wright, President of Bradford Chamber and Managing Director of Bradford-based Thorite, played host to Alderman David Wootton, the Right Honourable the Lord Mayor of the City of London, at a special dinner in the Midland Hotel in Bradford on Monday 23rd January.

David Wootton, born and educated in Bradford, is keen to help support local industry and commerce, by raising awareness of Bradford and district's manufacturing concerns during his planned visits to around twenty six countries this year.

Mr Wootton is currently touring businesses in the North of England and in a programme arranged by the Bradford Chamber visited a number of companies at the forefront of the financial, textile and digital business sectors, including Pace, The Ecology Building Society, Acorn Stair Lifts, Haworth Scouring and Advanced Actuators.

He called for a greater collaboration between the financial services sector in Yorkshire and the City as the UK competes on the world stage and said: "I think the traditional view has been for us to regard different cities in parts of the UK as competition, but it is a competitive world and it is much better for us to recognise each other's strengths."

Speaking after the dinner, which was attended by local business leaders, plus the Leader and Chief Executive of Bradford Council, Stephen Wright said: "The Lord Mayor's visit provides a great opportunity for businesses from our area to showcase their excellent products and services, enabling him to be fully briefed when on overseas visits.  His role during those visits is not simply to represent the City of London but also to be a UK ambassador for all that is good about business in Britain."
