Thorite's Managing Director demonstrates his commitment to expanding Bradford's manufacturing opportunities

Thursday 14th June 2012

Stephen Wright, Managing Director of Bradford-based Thorite, the UK's biggest distributor of pneumatic products and process systems, is at the forefront of support for Bradford's Year of Manufacturing campaign.

The campaign is being masterminded by 5 influential local organisations: Bradford Council, Bradford Chamber of Commerce, Bradford and Airedale Manufacturing Alliance (BAMA), the University of Bradford, and the Advanced Digital Institute in Saltaire. The campaign aims to highlight and boost the strengths of Bradford's manufacturing sector, which currently provides 20% of local economic output.

Stephen Wright is the current President of Bradford Chamber of Commerce and a board member of the BAMA. He launched the campaign by chairing a BAMA 'Question Time' meeting on May 23rd at Bradford's Cedar Court hotel, which brought together leading Bradford manufacturers and service providers including BorgWarner Turbo Systems, Radio Design, Anzeck Plastics and PEC Building & Shopfitting.

The campaign's main aim is to produce the ideal conditions to establish a new Centre for Manufacturing Excellence in Bradford, providing a focal point for technological innovation, inward investment and knowledge sharing.

Speaking after the meeting Stephen Wright said: "The Year of Manufacturing will provide a catalyst for raising the sector's profile and will hopefully help to create jobs by developing the supply chain, enabling local firms to win more business from manufacturers. It is 18 months since we launched the BAMA and it was felt that a series of events and activities would spotlight the sector, with the aim of providing networking opportunities and practical support for local companies. If this leads to the creation of a Centre for Manufacturing Excellence it will be a major step forward and provide a lasting legacy for local manufacturers."
