An old trophy returned and a new trophy won - a bitter sweet day for the Thorite-Sponsored Racetec Hillclimb Team

Monday 8th June 2015

The Thorite-sponsored Racetec Hill Climb Team made their second outing of the season at Harewood yesterday, competing in the Jim Thompson Memorial Trophy meeting. Last year the trophy, which is a spectacular bronze sculpture of Jim Thompson, former CEO of the Guyson beadblasting company competing in his Jaguar XK sportscar, was won by Racetec's lead driver Richard Vaughan after he set fastest time of the day.

Sadly Richard, who is Thorite's Marketing Manager, had to return the trophy during the meeting, after being narrowly beaten into second place in the 1100cc Racing Car class by a margin of just 0.8sec, but on the plus side his performance was sufficient to pick up another trophy for third overall fastest time of the day, with the points gained putting him currently third in the 2015 Harewood FTD Championship.

Richard rounded off the 2014 season by finishing second in this Championship and this year he is determined to go one better, although he realises that he'll have his work cut out as he has competed in one less event than his main rivals. The Racetec car is an OMS single seater fitted with a Suzuki GSXR 1000 engine which develops 180 BHP.

Speaking of his latest outing Richard said: "The Thorite-sponsored race car is performing really well and still has some further development potential. As a 61 year old competitor I long since replaced the benefits of youth with experience and I'm confident that Racetec will enjoy continued success this year."

The Racetec OMS has true supercar performance, capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in a little under 3 seconds. The car's main sponsor is Thorite, the UK's biggest independent distributor of pneumatic products and process systems, supported by SIP and Chicago Pneumatic (CP).
