At the Engineering Employers Federation, Yorkshire Manufacturing Dinner, a chance meeting between Stephen Wright, the Managing Director of Thorite and Brian Lawson of the Kirklees College Process Manufacturing Centre has resulted in a compressor for a pick-and-place machine.

With the official opening of the Process Manufacturing Centre imminent, a suitable compressor still hadn’t been found. The next day, Phil Whittleston, from the Thorite compressor sales team, contacted Brian Lawson and after exploring a number of ideas, settled on an offer from Gast Jun-Air, Thorite's supplier of silent industrial compressors. After a quick conversation with Michael Roff of Gast Jun-Air, a former demonstration machine was found that would suit the college's requirements. Better still, Gast Jun-Air agreed to donate the compressor to the college.

The compressor was delivered to the Kirklees College Process Manufacturing Centre in Huddersfield in time for the official opening of the college which was attended by local dignitaries, including local MP Barry Sheerman. Thorite was among the many supporters of the college who took stands at a mini-exhibition.
