FIAC invented the portable air compressor as we know it today in Italy in 1977. The compact dimensions and light weight of the design created a very compact and easily transportable unit that made air compressors available to a wider audience which effectively created the DIY air compressor market. In 1980 FIAC became the first company to manufacture air compressor pumps entirely from die cast aluminium, reducing further the weight and increasing the desirability of the air compressor.
FIAC then developed the first silent air compressor in 1985, using a sound deadening canopy to reduce noise levels to an acceptable level. Never one to sit on it's laurels FIAC went on to develope the oil free air compressor, completing the job in 1987 with the launch of it's first model. Without any oil-lubricated components, this opened up market opportunities for use where hygienic, clean air is a pre-requisite. One particularly important market which the new compressor range opened up was the use of oil free units for medical and dental air applications which could be operated without air filters. Today FIAC continues to lead in the manufacture and development of Piston Air Compressors
